It’s only natural that our talented employees want to advance their career. Likewise it’s also extremely important for prospective employees to want to know what progression opportunities are like if they were to join Trayport.
With this in mind, having a strong progression, development and learning strategy helps us to retain and attract the best people.
Attraction and retention of good people is key. That said, why else do we think it’s important to work with our people when it comes to career development?

At the recruitment stage, I’m always asked in some form by prospective employees “what does progression look like?” They want to know whether Trayport will invest in them as an employee.
We see progression as a constantly evolving process that requires plenty of listening, flexibility, choice and personalisation. It means different things to different people, so a “one size fits all” isn’t going to work for us.
We’re fortunate that we are big enough to have structured progression and career pathing, yet small enough to flex and adapt to meet the needs of the individual. It means that progression doesn’t necessarily mean moving into management, changing roles or changing job titles. This of course still happens and is a form of progression, but there are so many other ways to progress your career.
For example, you can become a subject matter expert in our software, be more commercially focused in an accounting role and broaden your role to take on more responsibility across multiple business units.
We’re firm believers that employees should be proactive in their progression. We will support you where possible but as progression varies for different people, it’s important that you communicate this to us. We will keep listening and working with you to support your career journey with us.
The following list is by no means exhaustive but offers a flavour of various ways we approach progression.
A number of people at Trayport have progressed their career through promotions. That could be in the form of leading teams, moving into a higher position or expanding into a more global role. You will work with your manager to establish development goals that can support your pathway to a promotion.
We advertise roles internally and give employees the opportunity to apply. While not everyone is successful, it provides a great opportunity to discuss career plans and understand your motivations, so we can help you get there. There are also opportunities for global mobility, as we become more international as an organisation.
Progression comes in many shapes and sizes, including the process of evolving and achieving growth in your role. We want you to be proactive in working with your manager to identify opportunities to expand your role in areas that interest you.
It may not seem an obvious link but the way our office is set up, our regular social events and impact initiatives all support greater collaboration, networking and positive learning. Building these networks is such a great way to grow your career.
