Trayport’s 2024 Charitable Impact

At Trayport we believe that we must be a business that not only supports our people, our clients, and energy trading markets, but one that also gives back to the communities that surround us.

TMX Cycles for a Cause

So far this year our employees have taken on various challenges that have tested their physical endurance while raising money for worthy charities. This has included the TMX Cycles for a Cause team of 11 cyclists taking on the 50-mile and 100-mile Pilgrims Cycle Challenge in Kent at the start of May. Pilgrims Hospices provide open and compassionate care to people with a life-limiting illness, while offering support to their family and friends, we were pleased to raise £3,150 for this great cause.

With legs not yet fully recovered the cycling team went on to battle the mammoth London to Brighton Bike Ride in June, raising £1,555 for the First Love Foundation whose mission is to tackle poverty in the Tower Hamlets area, close to where our London Office is based.

Three Peaks Challenge

In June our charitable efforts continued with a brave group from our London Office taking on the infamous Three Peaks Challenge. Together they climbed the three highest peaks in England (Scafell Pike), Scotland (Ben Nevis), and Wales (Snowdon) within 24 hours, totalling a massive 23 miles in distance and 3,064 meters in ascent.

The challenge raised a huge £12,238 for Autistica, the UK’s national autism research charity. They focus on giving autistic people the opportunity to live long, happy, healthy lives, by funding research, shaping policy and working with autistic people to understand their needs. Autistica’s commitment to improving neuro-diversity in the workplace is also something which is hugely important to us here at Trayport.

Brighton Beach Environmental Clean Up

Every year we invite our people to make an impact and see what difference they can make within our local communities and for causes that matter to them. Each of our employees has two days each year to give their time to a cause they care about.

This year, as part of Earth Day which is celebrated around the world annually on April 22nd and is a day to empower actions for sustainability and expand how we care for our environment we organised a group impact day for our employees. There are many ways we can contribute to a greener planet both as individuals and as a company so we planned an environmental clean up on Brighton Beach. A team of 30 spent up to 6 hours clearing rubbish from the beach and surrounding parks in an effort to make the city cleaner.

In June, in honour of Pride Month each of our offices raised money for LGBTQ+ charities, including Oogachaga in Singapore, Rechtskomitee LAMBDA (RKL) In Vienna and Pride in London. Our contributions reflect our commitment to inclusivity and equality for all.

Our continued commitment

As we move into the second half of 2024 our charitable efforts remain a primary focus. Earlier this year we asked our employees to share their suggestions for Team Impact to consider when allocating charitable donations for 2024. Our Team Impact 23/24 Global Giving Mandate is Community and Social Welfare, and our sub-theme is Child Welfare and so we are pleased to be supporting the below charities in London and Vienna.

London – Little Village
We are very pleased to commit a £20,000 donation to Little Village. This builds upon our support of this charity through our Impact Day in 2023 when a team of 30 visited the Little Village warehouse in Hounslow to sort through their winter clothes so they were ready to give to families. Little Village pass on excellent pre-loved goods from one family to another via their baby banks, creating a network of support and building a ‘village’. This year, we will support Little Village to continue building this support beyond the physical items, and bettering the mental and physical wellbeing of young children and families in London.

London – Papyrus
A new charity we are supporting this year, with another £20,000 donation. Papyrus exists to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives, by shattering the stigma surrounding suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to emotional distress. Our donation will go towards funding their much needed helpline, HOPELINE247 which provides confidential support and advice to young people struggling with thoughts of suicide, and anyone worried about a young person. We will also fund training to equip young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to suicidal behaviour.

Vienna – MOKI-Wien
We are very pleased to support MOKI-Wien with a €6,000 donation. Since 1999, MOKI-Wien has been providing medical home nursing, care, advice and support for premature babies, children and young people with chronic and life-shortening illnesses or severe disabilities with qualified pediatric nurses. MOKI-Wien cares for over 500 children every year in their familiar living environment: at home, in kindergarten or at school. Our donation will help tackle language barriers (which often make it difficult for nurses to adequately discuss diagnoses or everyday matters) by purchasing 35 portable translation units. These allow nurses to translate into 137 languages with real-time support using two-way translation.

Vienna – Stiftung Kindertraum
Finally, we are very happy to commit a €10,000 donation to Stiftung Kindertraum. Stiftung Kindertraum focuses on granting dreams to children and teenagers facing chronic or severe health conditions. These dreams can range from increased independence through assistance dogs to improved mobility with specially adapted bicycles. They’ve fulfilled over 4,000 children’s dreams, all funded by donations. Our donation will specifically support two children to receive the equipment, therapies and medical support they need to navigate their complex needs and fulfill their ‘dreams’.

A huge THANK YOU to Team Impact and everyone who has got stuck into our charitable efforts so far this year, we can’t wait to continue this momentum into the rest of 2024 and 2025.
