Celebrating her 5th anniversary at Trayport, Kristie Ridgway plays a key role in the creation of our trading solutions as one of our Test Team Leads.
To learn more, we spent some time with Kristie this month and asked questions about her role as a Team Lead and her experience managing a team of Developers in Test.

1. As a Team Lead for a team of Developers in Tests, what does your role involve?
If you were to look at my calendar, it looks like my role is all about “them meetings”. Ha!
Jokes aside, since my role is a combination of people and delivery management, I have quite a busy calendar. Ensuring that I understand the objectives and milestones for each product cluster is key to best support the people I manage. I’m lucky enough to have a Developer in Test on each of our 6 product clusters!
My role involves regular catch-ups with each of my direct reports where we discuss what they are working on and if there is anything I can help with. We might also discuss opportunities for improvement and personal growth. I also help to plan the automated testing for the Joule product cluster, contributing to the existing test framework and test suites, and participating in code reviews when needed.
2. What do you most enjoy about being a Team Lead at Trayport?
I really enjoy it when I see my direct reports thriving in their roles. Whether it’s seeing how proud they are of their achievements or hearing feedback from other parts of the business about something they have done well.
3. What are some of the big challenges you face as a Team Lead at Trayport?
One of the biggest challenges, that is not unique to Trayport, has got to be leading a team within the current pandemic climate.
I really miss collaborating with my direct reports in person, pairing with them at their desk, and being able to have our one-to-one catch-ups over a cuppa tea in the kitchen. It can feel lot more formal via video call.
4. What advice would you give to technologists looking to make a career as a lead at Trayport?
If you have a passion for helping others do well, like dipping your toe into code when required, and you’re proactive in coming up with ways to improve yourself, your team, and your department then Trayport is the place you’re looking for.
